famine
The emaciated rider measures,
tipped against cultural memory.
Languages wither, traditions fade-
Where elders’ stories become whispers,
And young voices lose their roots.
Hunger is not just for bread, but for belonging.
What may seem to affect OTHERS, impacts us ALL.
There is a graveyard of creative projects in Knoxville. Flash in the pan moments of genius have risen and fallen from their convergence, just as long as they could scrape together enough funds to survive. Those that do survive are firmly rooted in the community, having been founded years ago and given the most financial support by the city and state grants. They have the resources, the professional knowledge, and the access to keep their organizations afloat.
Outside of these institutions, it has historically been difficult for cooperatives and community spaces to survive in places such as Knoxville due to high costs and infrastructure issues such as walkability.
What can we do? Support those who are here now! Help build towards a stronger community with longevity.
